“During my eight years (2014-2022) serving as Mayor of Superior, I learned about the many advantages of home rule and advocated for its adoption. I’m pleased that our current Board of Trustees has moved this idea forward as Home Rule is long overdue for the Town of Superior. Adopting a Home Rule charter will give Superior residents greater control over local decisions focusing on the best interests of our residents. Recently I was honored to work with 8 other talented and thoughtful Superior residents on the Home Rule Commission drafting Superior’s Home Rule Charter. I’m very proud of our work and know it will serve residents well for generations. I encourage all residents to vote YES in November 2024 to adopt Superior’s Home Rule Charter.”

Home Rule is essential for Superior’s growth and future.”

“We have attended an informal gathering with one charter member explaining the charter process, timeline and final draft. Some of us have read the entire document, some reviewed relevant sections and the three of us have discussed it in some length. We have also reviewed the material presented on the town’s website.

After all of this review and consideration, we have all concluded that we are firmly in favor of the home rule charter. Key to our decision were the following factors:

  • The charter removes from the town board the ability to rezone or dispose of land that is currently zoned open space without presenting it to the voters for a vote. Under the charter, any such rezoning or disposal would have to be put to a vote of the voters, not just a vote of the town board.

  • The charter gives the town board latitude in local zoning issues, that currently are subject to state statutes. We are much more comfortable with our ability to have input with our local town board than with the governor and the legislature of the State of Colorado.”
